Blundeston Parish Council has agreed to build a skate park at the back of the village hall after requests for a park had been made by several young people in the community over a period of several years. After consideration of four skate park designs from different builders, put together with input from the young skate boarders in the village, we have agreed a final design. As the funding for the skate park will have to be obtained from several sources the building of the skate park will be broken down into two phases. Phase 1 will be the laying of the tarmac and installation of the bulk of the ramps, I.e. a volcano mini ramp, a hipped flat bank, a fully sloped planter box, a jump/fun box, a manual box and a quarter pipe. The layout is illustrated in the diagram below. Phase 2 will see additional ramps added that include a quarter pipe attached to the existing hipped flat ramp, a double wave fun box attached to the driveway fun box, a quarter pipe attached to new flat bank to create bank, a and a flat ramp attached to above to crate a bank
Funding for Phase 1 has now been secured. WREN have given a grant for £10,000 for half of the tarmac costs, Suffolk Environmental Trust has given another £10,000 to pay for the other half of the tarmac costs. The Phase 1 ramps will be paid for by a grant from Biffaward. The tarmac has now been laid and Phase 1 ramps will be installed and ready for use by 20th October 2007. We are busy fundraising for the Phase 2 ramps and applications for funding have been submitted to the Youth Opportunities Scheme, Awards for all and Barclays £4£ scheme. Some of the funds required have been obtained by several fund raising events during the summer, which to date have brought in more than £900, so a big thank you to everyone who have contributed towards achieving this.
A Skate Park Management Group has been set up to look after the management and maintenance of the skate park. It is comprised of three parents, Sue - our community support police officer and nine of the skate park users who represent different types of users enjoying the skate park. If you are interested in taking part, the group the next meeting will take place on Monday 12th November at 5.30 in the village hall.
Should anyone, or any organisation wish to make either a personal or corporate donation to help establish the Skateboard Park, then this would be most gratefully received. Please make any cheque payable to Blundeston and Flixton Parish Council and mark the back 'Skateboard Park fund'
Please send your cheque to Mrs Barbara Shaw, 'Holbeck', Market Lane, Blundeston. NR32 5AP
